After Christmas Vacations

Trade in your wet boots and mittens for surf and sunshine.

The Christmas season is a joyous but busy time of year. After weeks of rushing around shopping, checking off "to-do" lists, furiously baking and shuttling between holiday events, a bit of rest and relaxation is one of the best Christmas presents you could ever give yourself. There are few things more relaxing than lying on sunny beach, listening to the waves, and knowing that you've escaped the cold and wet of winter. Does this Spark an idea?

Hawaii

Hawaii is one of the most popular wintertime tourist destinations, and for good reason. The average temperature during the winter is between 75 and 85 degrees F. A number of the state's best known attractions are only available in the winter. Peak whale watching season runs from January to April, and surf season falls between November and February. Don't worry about crowded beaches, either; Hawaii has more than 750 miles of breathtaking coastline.

Jamaica

If you have an inkling to visit Jamaica, one of the best times to go is after Christmas; the early part of the year is comfortably warm but not hot, and you will avoid the rainy season that runs between September and November. Jamaica is filled with beautiful beaches, most of which have at least one bar nearby if you find yourself parched after all the sunshine and sand. For more adventurous vacationers, a trip along the Rio Grande on a boat propelled by bamboo poles can be arranged.

Fiji

Fiji has 333 islands, not all of which are inhabited. The island nation boasts an abundance of pristine beaches that descend into astonishingly clear water. Snorkeling, kayaking and whitewater rafting are popular activities on the islands. Athletic types enjoy the many mountain trails that weave their way across the islands, as they frequently encounter rushing waterfalls and pass through vibrantly green rainforests.
