Turn your party into a tropical event.
A Hawaiian-themed party is a great way to offer your guests a taste of the tropics. When planning your tropical bash, you don't have to break the bank. There are a number of inexpensive things that you can do to turn your party from a generic gathering to a festive time under the sun.
Pineapple Ring Punch
Turn a standard punch into a delicious tropical concoction by adding inexpensive pineapple rings. Purchase ready-made punch, or use a mix to create your party beverage. Place punch into a glass punch bowl with ice. Pour canned pineapple rings, without draining them, into the punch. Mix your punch to incorporate the juice into the punch mixture. With just this low-cost addition, you can add a tropical, pineapple flavor, and interesting look to your party beverage.
Tropical Backdrop
Set the scene for a Hawaiian event with a tropical backdrop. Purchase enough white paper tablecloths to cover the dominant wall in your party venue. Tape these covers over the wall surface using masking tape. Using inexpensive tempera or other water-based paint, create a tropical scene on your prepared backdrop. Paint palm trees, a shoreline or a sandy beach on your backdrop to bring the tropics into your party without investing a large amount of money.
Volcano Centerpieces
Add some spice to your party tables with volcano centerpieces. Use sheets of corrugated cardboard to act as your base. Cut sheets of poster board to create cones, and place one in the center of each of your cardboard boards. Cut newsprint into strips and dip it into a mixture of 3 parts water and 1 part glue. Place these strips on your cones to build your textured volcano. After you have allowed your volcano forms time to dry, paint them with browns and reds so they resemble real volcanoes ready to erupt. Place your creations in the centers of your party tables.
Trash Bag Hula Skirts
Create festive party attire for your guests to don with simple trash bags. Purchase green, drawstring trash bags. Cut the bottom off each bag. Slit the bags into strips to create the look of a grass skirt. When party guests arrive, give them each one of these prepared bags to wear. Help them slip into the bag, pulling the drawstring closure to their waist and tightening it until it fits securely just like a tropical grass skirt.
