Extreme Scavenger Hunt Ideas

Scavenger hunts often use maps as clues.

Adults don't have to miss out on the fast-paced excitement of a game of scavenger hunt. While it is often played by children at birthday parties, following clues around the backyard, the game can be intensified on all levels for adults. These are some extreme scavenger hunt ideas that will test you.

Extreme Clues

The first way of making scavenger hunt more extreme is to raise the difficultly of the clues or directions. Rather then simply listing the objects that need to be found or locations that need to be visited, encrypt the clues and spread them throughout the course. The clue might ask you look into the book at 10am at the SPC. The clue would then lead you to a St Paul's Cathedral, where the next clue is hidden in a hymn book.

Extreme Tasks

Instead of simply taking a picture next to a statue or having a waitress sign a napkin, raise the stakes and include some extreme tasks that have to be completed before continuing on. You could include things like bungee jumping, rock climbing, white water rafting. Other tasks can include more embarrassing activities such as serenading a stranger in the streets. Make sure you don't include anything illegal or extremely dangerous in your list of tasks.

Extreme Destinations

The TV show "The Amazing Race" is basically a global version of scavenger hunt. While you and your friends might not have the money or time to jet set around the world, you can still set extreme destinations that are difficult to get to. Climbing to the top of a mountain, sneaking into your friend's house or hiking through the woods are all exhilarating and challenging. Just be sure not to venture into any dangerous areas or trespass on private property.

A Long Game

Stretch your scavenger hunt over a long weekend. A long game compared to one that only takes a couple of hours is more exciting and requires endurance. Include clues that take teams outside of the city into the mountains or the forest and have them camps overnight in tents. Include different towns, or if you live close to a state boundary, cross over and continue in the next state. In an extreme game of scavenger hunt, nothing should be easy.
