Decorations For A Wedding Reception

Wedding reception decorations

Wedding receptions are where guests spend most of their time, so it's the place where brides want to make the biggest statement. Wedding reception decorations should fit the overall theme of your wedding, whether that's casual garden or elegant black tie. Consider making as many wedding reception decorations as possible to save some money, but know when to turn it over to the professionals. Remember your wedding day should be full of excitement about your nuptials, not stress over table centerpieces.

Table Centerpieces

Create unique centerpieces for your wedding reception. It's not uncommon to see candles or fresh flowers as part of a wedding reception centerpiece but consider a more distinctive design. Incorporate fresh vegetables into the design. Put a rubber band around pillar candles of varying heights. Place asparagus or green beans under the rubber band. Tie a satin ribbon or raffia over the rubber band to hide it. Cut the center out of an artichoke and place a small votive candle in the middle. Arrange a few of these on each table as the centerpiece. Use this centerpiece for a garden wedding. Consider using fresh fruits in the flower vases, slicing oranges, lemons and limes to add color to wedding reception tables.

Table Accents

Enhance wedding reception decorations with table accents. Use matching chair covers or tulle bows to create an elegant look. Make napkin rings for each place setting. Save paper towel and toilet paper rolls. Divide the rolls into 1-inch segments and cut apart. Hot glue matching fabric over the outer part of the ring and tuck the edges beneath. Design place card holders for each guest. Consider tying a piece of cardstock with their name to the napkin holder for a simple place card holder. Save wine corks and cut small slits in the corks using an x-acto knife. Use sandpaper to flatten the cork's bottom so it doesn't roll. Write the guest's name on a small piece of cardstock and place in the slit.

Use Tulle and Lights

Create an eye-catching decoration for your wedding reception. Design a canopy of tulle and lights. Start in the center of the ceiling around the chandelier. Staple white Christmas lights to the ceiling and swag the lights. Try out a few swags and see how it looks before securing all the lights. Bring the lights to the wall and secure with staples. Repeat the process the desired number of times or the amount of lights available. Create a glowing look by mixing swags of tulle with the lights. Start in the center and work your way out following the pattern of the lights. Use light clips if the wedding reception location will not let you staple into the wall.
