Diy Christmas Accent Yard Art

Some think that in the warmer months more yard work is required. Truth be told, the best time for yard work is during the Christmas holidays. It is the perfect time of year to show off your creative flair and ingenuity. It's also an excuse to bring the Christmas festivities outdoors for the enjoyment of friends and neighbors as these DIY Christmas decoration ideas will prove. Does this Spark an idea?

Candy Decorations

Decorating with candy adds childlike whimsy to any yard. Of course you aren't really decorating with candy, but large replicas of treats reminiscent of gingerbread house decor. Lollipops take some time, but are definitely worth the effort. At your local craft store pick up several different colors of cellophane wrap, large circles of Styrofoam and dowel rods that are about 1/2 inch thick by 18 to 24 inches tall. Place hot glue onto the end of the dowel rod and insert into the Styrofoam. Cover the Styrofoam with cellophane to create a lollipop look and hold into place with a rubber band or a garbage tie, allowing some of the cellophane to bunch lightly at the stick. Use these to line your driveway.

Let It Snow

Even if you live in a warmer climate you can bring a winter wonderland home for the holidays. Using a box of Popsicle sticks, white and silver spray paint plus iridescent glitter, you can create cheerful snowflakes to hang from trees and your home. Lie the craft sticks on newspaper and spray paint white then cover in glitter while it is drying. Repeat this on the other side after it has dried with silver spray paint and glitter.

Crisscross four Popsicle sticks in the center to form a snow flake and hot glue together. Using the hot glue again attach a regular wire ornament hanger on the end of one of the sticks then tie several of these snowflakes to the trees outside your home. These can also be hung from the eaves or attached to the lights you string along the edge of your roof.

Wreaths

This DIY Christmas wreath will be fun for the entire family. It takes about an hour to put together and is made with a hula hoop. Wrap about 12 inches of garland around the hula hoop using craft wire. Then attach small weatherproof bows that include wire ties around the wreath. Place a large bow on top or you can also use Christmas lights or ornaments if you like. This is best hung on the chimney or in front of a large window.
