A family trip to New York City does not have to be expensive. There are many kid-friendly events and locations that are free for children to attend and enjoy in the Big Apple. New York City is the biggest city in the United States and one of the most exciting, so children visiting here can truly enjoy and remember their trip for a lifetime.
Storytime at FAO Schwarz
FAO Schwarz is the most famous toy store in the world. The store on Fifth Avenue in New York City has two floors of toys featuring numerous plush toys, a create-your-own Barbie station, and a large floor piano for children to play on.
The toy store also offers a free storytime for children to enjoy. A member of the Barefoot Bookstore staff reads a children's story to children so they and their parents can relax after a busy day in the city.
Moxie Spot Free Family Movie Night
Moxie Spot in Brooklyn offers a free family movie night every Friday. A short film for children begins at 6:15 p.m., with the feature film starting at 6:45 p.m. All the movies are appropriate for children. The films are mainly by Disney. Moxie Spot also features a restaurant for dining. If you are staying in downtown NYC, there are subway and bus options that can take you to Moxie Spot in Brooklyn.
Central Park
A visit to Central Park on a trip to New York City with children is a must. Children can enjoy the beauty of the large park as well as other interesting free attractions within the park. Attractions include numerous playgrounds including the Abraham and Joseph Spector Playground, Adventure Playground, Safari Playground and Tots Playground.

Little boys will enjoy the LEGO Store at Rockefeller Center to check out all the different exhibits dedicated to LEGO. Fans can play games, build models and take trivia quizzes for free.
Beware that if you go into these stores, your child may want to make a purchase. Nonetheless, children can still enjoy looking around and experiencing the free activities within the stores.
