Acting Schools For Kids

Acting classes help kids overcome shyness and prepare for acting careers.

Acting classes can help kids gain self-confidence, overcome shyness, become more outgoing and speak in front of a group. Whether a child wants to become an actor or just wants a creative outlet, acting classes can promote imagination. While many cities and towns offer acting schools for children, the most prominent are located in the thriving art scenes of major cities such as Los Angeles, New York and Chicago.

TVI Actors Studio

TVI Actors Studio has both New York and Los Angeles locations. The New York office offers an extensive range of classes taught by professional actors, casting directors, and talent agents. A hosting class teaches kids the skills needed be an effective host by connecting with the audience and expressing personality. A stand-up comedy improv class teaches kids to think on their feet and be spontaneous, a useful skill whether they envision a future in acting or not. The auditioning classes walk children through the steps of auditioning for a role. Additional classes include studies in commercials, primetime TV, monologue and three levels of acting classes. An agent evaluation series enables students to showcase their skills for and be evaluated by industry agents.

Acting Studio Chicago

Acting Studio Chicago was founded in 1981 by Jane Brody, a Los Angeles transplant. The school's Saturday boot camps allow kids to spend mornings working on scene study and devote afternoons to the technical aspects of acting. A 10-week course on camera technique shows kids how improvisational and theater games can help build their imaginations and allow them to connect with the audience. Commercial workshops allow kids ages 12 and up to experience what it's like to go out on auditions for commercials by participating in mock auditions and learning audition protocol. Summer clinics provide a more intense atmosphere, where kids learn about monologues, cold reading, on-camera etiquette and business skills. At the end of the week, kids participate in a showcase for industry professionals such as agents, casting directors and theater directors.
