Birthday Party Supplies To Make

You can make a number of items for a birthday party by hand.

Putting together a birthday party can become an exciting project; it can also become stressful if costs for supplies begin to rise. To stay within your budget, make some of the necessary birthday items yourself by hand. Several supplies needed for the party can be homemade --- everything from the invites to the decorations. Does this Spark an idea?

Invitations

Invitations are one of the first party supplies you'll need, and you can easily make these by hand. Purchase some pretty card stock at a craft store, and handwrite the info for the party, decorating the perimeter with stickers. Or design an invitation on your home computer and print out your invites to send.

Decorations

You can make decorations using nearly anything. Hang up swaths of fabric you have on hand for bursts of color, for example, or string Christmas lights you already own to add lighting. You can even make a paper "Happy Birthday" banner using construction paper and a bit of yarn.

Place Mats

Place mats can be homemade and set at the table, and little ones can help out with the project. If the party theme centers on a children's character, such as Mickey Mouse, get out a Mickey Mouse coloring book and tear sheets from the book. Have kids color in the pages and write the name of each guest attending at the top of each page.

Favor Bags

Send your party guests home with favors placed inside a homemade favor bag. Purchase a set of brown paper lunch bags, and decorate the outside with stickers, stencils, markers and crayons. Fill the bags with inexpensive items from the dollar store, such as candies and pencils, and fold over the top of each bag, stapling it down to secure it.
