Fun Birthday Parties For Kids

Plan a fun birthday celebration for your child.

No one anticipates a birthday quite like a kid. Children look forward to their birthdays for months, so make each birthday a fun and memorable occasion. While pin the tail on the donkey and pinatas will always be standards at kids' parties, get a bit more creative with your child's party. You don't have to spend a lot of money to throw a party your child will never forget. Does this Spark an idea?

Camping

Take a group of children camping to celebrate your son's birthday. One way to do this is to rent a house in a nearby state park or national forest. Take the kids fishing, hiking or to do other outdoor activities. Alternatively, pitch a few tents in a rustic campground, create a bonfire and help the children roast hot dogs and marshmallows. If you don't feel comfortable taking the children to the wilderness for a camping trip, throw a camping party in your backyard. Pitch tents and let the kids sleep outside.

Treasure Hunt

Plan a treasure hunt for the kids at the birthday party. You could choose a pirate theme for this party and give each child a pirate hat to wear while they try to find their treasure chest. Split the kids into groups and give each group a map and clues to find their treasure chest. Hide the chests around your yard and home. If you are friendly with your neighbors, ask if you also can use their yards for the hunt. When each group finds its treasure, they can split their loot. Place a goodie bag for each child in the chest.

Petting Zoo

Many children love animals, so throw an animal-themed party for the child. Use animals in the decoration and serve a cake in the shape of an animal. To make this party even more fun, have a petting zoo at the party. Most large cities have businesses that bring the animals to your house and set up the petting zoo in your yard. The kids can see animals like ducks, lambs, goats and pigs. You could also have a pony at the party that the kids can take turns riding.

Cooking Party

If you are hosting a party for older children, let them help make the food for the party. Give each child an apron and a chef's hat. Get them into the kitchen and assist them in making simple foods, like pizza. Pizza is a good option because you can give each child a small round of dough and she can top her pizza with whatever she likes. Another idea is to go ahead and bake cookies or cupcakes before the children arrive. Let them frost and decorate the cupcakes however they like.
