Foods For Afternoon Baby Showers

Foods for afternoon baby showers should be tasty and light.

When planning foods for an afternoon baby shower, first consider what the mommy-to-be likes. Then consider the guest list and anyone who might have dietary restrictions. Include a variety of foods. Accommodate people who don't eat meat, for example, or who don't drink soda. Stick with light fare, whether offering a full meal or snacks. Does this Spark an idea?

Main Dishes

For a shower that is given closer to lunch time, serve something a little heavier than snacks. Chicken, shrimp and vegetable kabobs can be grilled outside when the weather is nice. Use cookie cutters to create finger sandwiches in shapes that fit the baby shower theme. Choose the most common meats, such as turkey, ham, tuna and chicken salad. Include at least one vegetarian option, such as soy meat and soy cheese or cucumber sandwiches. Complement your finger sandwiches with fresh cups of fruit and chips.

Desserts And Drinks

Fresh baked chocolate chip or oatmeal cookies are quick desserts for a baby shower. Homemade mints are a refreshing addition to the sweets table. A cake with a baby theme can be purchased in advance from a bakery. Offer ice cream on the side. For drinks, include a variety of juices, sodas, water and a light wine for the non-pregnant in the crowd.

Cheese, Crackers And Fruits

Serve a lighter meal or a variety of snacks for a baby shower given after 2 pm. Slice and dice an assortment of cheeses and serve with a variety of crackers or light breads. Cut up vegetables and serve alongside a hot or cold dip. Complement with fresh-cut strawberries and grapes or other fruit in season.
