Dltk Crafts For Kids

Make an igloo out of marshmallows.

DLTK is a website started by a wife and mother of two girls who used the first initial of each person in the family to come up with the site name. It's founder, Leanne, watched the site grow and become a popular destination for web surfers looking to get ideas for arts and crafts for their kids. With many options ranging from educational crafts to religious activities, this site contains enough ideas to last any parent until the kids go off to college. Some of their crafts have become quite popular and appear on their top activities pages.

Handprint Craft Poems

DLTK suggests a creative way for children to make a poem for friends and family. The handprint is always a popular reminder of how small the little ones once were. Combining handprints with a child's poetry will preserve a special memory in a parent's heart for years to come.

Using a paper plate, the child dips his hand in a shallow pan of finger paint and makes an imprint in the center of the paper plate. The plate should be left alone to dry completely to avoid mess and smearing.

The child then writes or copies a poem onto the back of the plate and presents it to parents or a friend. The child can also add a colorful ribbon to the plate or decorate the outer edge.

Leaf Prints

Taking a walk through the woods on a fall afternoon is a great way to spend time with your child. It is also a good time for kids to collect leaves for a leaf print craft, according to DLTK-Holidays.com.

Allow the children to collect several different types of leaves that have fallen and are in good condition. Make the collecting educational by teaching the child the names of the trees that shed the leaves.

To complete the leaf print craft, the child will need the leaves, wax paper, an iron and ironing board. Once the leaves are collected, the child can arrange them on a large piece of wax paper any way that he sees fit. Use half of the wax paper to layout the leaves and fold the other half on top of the leaves to seal them in.

Place the folded paper with leaves in place on an ironing board and heat the iron to medium heat. Parents may have to do the ironing for young children and should supervise all ages. Press the wax paper onto the leaves. This will flatten them and seal them in the wax where they will remain preserved for viewing.

Edible Igloo

Kids can make an edible craft igloo using a polystyrene foam tray and cup, mini marshmallows, and white icing, according to DLTK-Holidays.com.

Secure the rim of a short, wide polystyrene cup to the surface of a white polystyrene tray using a smear of white icing of your choosing. Slather icing all over the outside of the cup and begin adding rows of mini marshmallows (the white ones) until the entire cup is covered. Stack more mini marshmallows to one side to form the entrance to your edible igloo.

Of course the foam can't be eaten, but this craft still makes a tasty snack for those who wish to pick off the marshmallows and frosting.
