Crafts Using Artificial Flowers

Use vibrant artificial flowers to create charming crafts.

When it comes to craft projects, artificial flowers can look as appealing as real blooms. Faux flowers have several advantages for art and craft projects. Plastic or silk flowers typically cost less than their fresh counterparts, and they last a lot longer. For a classy look, choose only authentic-looking artificial flowers when making crafts.

Floral Wreaths

Make festive floral wreaths to celebrate any holiday or special occasion. Create customized artificial flower wreaths to hang on doors or walls, or to give as thoughtful and inexpensive presents. Create an autumn-inspired floral wreath using harvest-hued decor items. Start with a straw or grapevine wreath base for a country style. Choose wired flowers featuring fall colors, such as yellow, orange and deep red chrysanthemums, sunflowers and roses, and twist them onto the wreath. Completely cover the base with flowers, or make small arrangements. Stick plastic acorn and pine cone picks, along with sprigs of red and orange berries, into the wreath, or use a hot glue gun to attach the decor pieces.

Silk Flower Centerpiece

Silk flowers can look just as elegant as real blooms in a centerpiece for a special event. For a fresh spring- or summer-inspired arrangement, fill a square glass vase with a bouquet of bright pink, yellow, orange and white silk gerbera flowers. To make a sweet baby or bridal shower centerpiece, create an ice cream sundae-inspired arrangement using silk flowers. Line a large glass ice cream sundae dish with white tissue paper and place a bit of florists' foam in the bottom. Insert stems of pink silk carnations into the foam so the blooms rest on the top of the dish, resembling frothy ice cream. Complete the piece by placing a plastic straw into the middle of the blooms.

Candy and Flowers

As a sweet Valentine's Day or birthday gift, create a charming candy and flower craft. This easy-to-make project is delightful to look at and eat. Fill a clear glass vase with vibrant treats such as candy-coated chocolate pieces, gumdrops, jelly beans or red licorice. Insert the stems of colorful faux flowers into the vase, nestling them into the candy pieces for a snug fit. If the arrangement is a gift, use the recipient's favorite blooms, such as pink and purple tulips, red roses or pink daisies. As a decorative touch, tie a matching ribbon around the center of the vase.
