Finger foods are delicious and inexpensive for parties.
When planning the menu of your bridal shower, keep in mind the company who will be in attendance. Is anyone with allergies going to be there? Will there be any vegetarians? Plan according to what people will eat. Bridal showers are known for mini finger-sandwiches and snacks; however, if mini food isn't your thing, don't be afraid to serve a nice roast. Don't tailor your shower to what you think it should be---tailor it to what you like. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Dips
Dips are fun and classy when they're not associated with potato chips. Serve several different dips, such as crab, tuna, spinach, artichoke, pepper, ranch, onion, dill, guacamole or hummus. Make sure the various dips offer different consistencies, to keep your selection fresh. Serve with vegetables as well as with whole wheat, butter, herb and cheese crackers. You might also serve baked slices of pita bread.
Soups
While soups may not be the first dish thought of for a bridal shower, small portions and attractive "packaging" will endear your guests to the idea. Serve fun or seasonal soups, such as pumpkin, broccoli, beet or classic chicken noodle, in dainty teacups for a unique presentation.
Drinks
For those not partaking in alcoholic beverages, serve fun mocktails like ginger ale and cherry juice together for a cherry fizz, a mint iced tea or a classic Shirley Temple. The website All Recipes has a long list of fabulous mocktails. For those getting their bubbly on, serve mimosas, mojitos, fruity margaritas or flavored iced tea mixed with vodka. Always have water available, as well.
Salads
Serve a fresh garden or Cobb salad with three different dressings set out in serving cups or gravy bowls. Serve a thicker dressing like ranch or Caesar along with a more fluid one like balsamic or sun dried tomato. For the last bowl, use a fruity, low-fat dressing such as raspberry-vinaigrette. Fruit salad is another option. Toss three or four of your favorite fruits in a bowl and serve them alone or with a vanilla or cream-cheese dip. You might also consider macaroni, coleslaw and potato salads.
Finger-Foods
Finger sandwiches are a common bridal-shower find. Think salad when planning the menu for your sandwiches: chicken salad, tuna salad, egg salad. Cucumber sandwiches are another option. Stuffed mushroom caps and bite-sized quiche are also appropriate.
Dessert
It's hard to go wrong when choosing a dessert. Bite-sized cheesecakes and brownies, chocolate-covered fruits, vanilla cupcakes, tiramisu, trifles and dessert gelatins would all be appropriate choices for a bridal shower. If you enjoy cake, you might also serve a small wedding cake.
