Family Home Evening is very important for LDS followers.
Family Home Evening (FHE) is a part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint's ideology. The concept encourages righteous living and strengthening of faith through family activities. In 1970, then President Joseph Fitzgerald Smith mandated Monday nights as FHE night. The structure of these evenings is intended to be informal and anyone can participate in FHE regardless of family size. To facilitate the practice of FHE and to emphasize its importance, church sanctuaries are closed on Mondays.
Make a Humanitarian Project
Church members are charged to give of themselves time, money and resources. Tangible personal property refers to personal items that are assets. These items can include jewelry, books and software. Singles can get together in a group and create a craft, like figurines or quilts, to be used as personal property, or this could be a singular activity.
Singing Hymns
FHE time is a time of togetherness, and singing hymns is an activity that reflects that. Songs that reflect praise and honor to God for his blessings are sung and help bolster close bonds. Singing hymns can occur anywhere; it can be in someone's house or at a local park. At universities across the nation, single students get together on campus to sing hymns.
Role Playing
Role-playing of Christian responses to practical situations can be a big part of FHE. Singles face a lot of challenges maintaining faith and skits that reinforce Christian values can serve as a platform for discussion and a vehicle for learning. Like a lot of FHE activities, role-playing can be done anywhere, but preferably in the home or a setting that will foster discussion to make the most of the activity. Examples of different sketches that can be performed include scenes from the Bible or the proper way to handle situations like a date.
Community Service
Visiting a hospital or a soup kitchen is part of the missionary tenet of faith that can be exercised by singles for FHE. Though the name FHE implies the home, the point is to strengthen and emphasize the Gospel, and outreach activities like hospice visits accomplish that goal.
Read the Gospel
Singles can take turns reading the Gospel to one another in a group. This is a basic activity of growing knowledge in Christ. Reading helps retain knowledge of the Gospel and provides a forum for self-examination, as well as allowing for growing intimacy with other singles. There are singles networks that allow singles to meet, like online forums or Facebook. Congregational members can also take the lead on facilitation of these kinds of events.
Board Games
Board games are a fun activity that can promote togetherness. A single person can invite other singles into their home for an evening of Monopoly, Scrabble or Taboo. A local community center can also be utilized for a game night.
Sports
Sports build a sense of camaraderie though competition. Sports like volleyball and softball are a great way to meet people and really have fun. If there aren't a lot of participants, singles can engage in tennis, basketball or any other activity that doesn't require a lot of people.
