A Disney decorating theme is broad enough to satisfy any taste, and is varied enough to accommodate any budget. You can be subtle by using colors and accessories that only imply a certain Disney theme, or you can go all out and use murals, prints and decorations that center around your favorite movie or character. Disney themes can be customized to suit a baby's nursery, a toddler's room or even a young-at-heart adult's room. A Favorite Movie
Center the theme around a favorite movie. Little boys may like a "Cars" or "Pirates of the Caribbean" theme, while girls may prefer a "Cinderella" or "Snow White" theme. Create the mood of the movie in the room by re-creating the main setting of the movie. Paint murals on the walls - or if you are not artistically inclined, use some of the many wall decals Disney sells. Buy bedding first - they sell bedroom sets for all major Disney movies - and base your color scheme off of that. Add accessories that tie into the theme. A Cars-themed room might have toy cars and trucks as decoration, while a Snow White theme may include an apple motif. A Pirates theme could include distressed wood furniture that mimics the look of a pirate's chest, and a Cinderella theme could include a real glass slipper (available through Disney) on a shelf.
A Favorite Character
Choose a favorite character to base the theme around. Little girls would love a Disney princess room with a castle mural, an iridescent veil over the bed and a sparkly tiara on the dresser. Use plenty of sparkles and feathers in the decoration and don't forget to put a "mirror, mirror, on the wall". Little boys may enjoy a "Wall-E" theme, complete with robots and futuristic space-themed decor. Paint the ceiling dark blue or black, and use glow-in-the-dark star decals. Winnie the Pooh is a popular nursery theme, with its soft yellow, green and brown palette. Crib sets and even matching clothing sold by Disney make it easy to outfit the entire room in an afternoon.
The Parks
Adults may prefer the more subtle approach of basing a room around the look of the Disney parks. Think about an All-American hometown feel, with Norman Rockwell-like perfection. Base the theme on Disney's Main Street USA, using a rich jewel-tone palette, vintage signs and antique wall sconces that echo the old fashioned street lamps. Or, take inspiration from the Disney Boardwalk by using pale pastels and a beach theme - add vintage bare-bulb lights and carousel pieces for an authentic look. Teens might enjoy a room inspired by Disney's Pleasure Island, with it's graffiti-like wall murals and moving colored lights. Throw in a disco ball for the ultimate Saturday night feel. It is possible to conjure the Disney magic without plastering the walls with mouse ears.
