Advice Cards For A Baby Shower

Everyone at the shower can give advice as well as gifts.

Nothing can fully prepare a new mom for the challenges ahead, but that doesn't stop people from wanting to give advice. Guests at a baby shower can fill out advice cards for the mother, imparting wisdom from years of experience. This can make a fun activity for the party and a nice keepsake for the years to come.

Purpose

The purpose of advice cards is to give a new mom advice that she can use to make it through the first year. Advice might be sentimental, like "Cherish every moment" or it may be more practical, like "Keep a few extra diapers and wipes in the car at all times in case of emergencies." The cards allow guests to present this advice in a formal way, and since they're printed, the mom can review them over and over again.

Style

Many stationery or party stores sell advice cards. You can even personalize them or choose cards that match the theme of your party. Alternatively, you could use index cards or gather the advice before the party and print it out.

Timing

Choose a time to present guests with the advice cards. You might include them with the invitation and ask guests to bring the card to the party with the advice already written on it. Alternatively, you can fill out the cards during the party, either at the beginning when guests arrive or during a specified time.

Presentation

Collect all of the advice cards and put them together to present them to the new mom. You might put them in a keepsake box or a decorative bag made from fabric. You could also punch holes in the corners of the card and tie them together, creating a small book. If there's time at the party, you can present them to the new mom and ask her to read all of the advice out loud.
