Celebrate a couple's love with a cleverly worded shower invitation.
As of 2010, couples wedding showers---or coed wedding showers---are gaining popularity. As the second event after the engagement party, the bride-and-groom-to-be invite friends and family to help them in their new life---by showering them with registry gifts. When wording a couple's shower invitations, choose the tone you want to communicate to guests. While elegant and heartwarming invitations are standard, feel free to play with the wording to capture the couple's character and enthusiasm for each other. Somewhere toward the end of the invitation, note that both men and women are invited and that guests are welcome to bring gifts addressed to the couple. Does this Spark an idea?
Sentimental
Include images and text that present a sentimental view of the lovers.
Start with a declaration about the love of the couple and their new life together. Something like "Celebrate the exciting news---join us for a dinner party to toast the newly engaged bride and groom." For a classic, sentimental shower invitation, honor the newly engaged bride and groom. If the couple has a couple wedding registry, be sure to tell guests to bring gifts in a warm, heartfelt way. Use wording such as, "to help the couple gather things for their new life together---take a look at x's and y's stunning gift registry." Focused, sincere wording and classic illustrations---like a bride and groom silhouette---round out the tone.
Playful and Witty
If the future bride and groom are playful, word the invitations to show that spirit.
Be creative with the wording to engage the readers and remind them of the creativity of the couple. Open the invitation with the line "We do." Invite guests to "shower the freshly engaged bride and groom" with registry gifts and to "eat, drink and get married." Be sure to let guests know about the theme if applicable. Some couples like to host an after tea party, an evening wine tasting, or an outdoor barbecue to celebrate the news. Incorporate the theme in the word play. For instance, for a wine tasting try a line like "Please bring a bottle of your favorite world wine to toast to this world-class couple." Be sure to flatter the couple and their love for each other in the wording.
Funny and Personal
Show the couple's sense of humor with a funny shower invitation.
Tell guests a bit about the couple's love story in the invitation. If the couple has a funny meeting story or engagement story, start the invitation with a line about the story to fill in the guests. For example, "They dated in high school, parted in college, fell back in love in Boston, broke up in Detroit, made up in New York, settled in Manhattan and (finally) got engaged last week. Join us to celebrate x's and y's wild love story!" You can also try a few rhyming lines, or a complete small funny poem, to draw in readers to the couple's humorous side.
