Birthday parties are a way to celebrate the special day for the guest of honor. But planning a birthday party can be stressful if you are a budget. Once you get the invitations, decorations, food and party favors, your budget is gone. Knowing some budget-friendly birthday party ideas will help you keep inside your budget, remove some of the stress of the planning and still ensure the party is fun for all. Does this Spark an idea?
Invitations
The first area you can save some money in is the invitations. Instead of purchasing expensive themed invitations, consider using blank notecards. These are usually less expensive, and the leftovers can be used for other purposes. You can decorate the cards with stickers, markers or stamps that you have around the house. Or, you can make your own invitations using cardstock. Use cookie cutters to trace different shapes on the cardstock and then cut out. Whichever method you choose, write your party information on the invites before putting them in the envelope. To save a few more dollars, hand-deliver the invitations instead of mailing.
Decorations
Decorations help set the tone where the party will be held. When you visit your local party supply store, keep an open mind and look for clearance products. For example, in the fall and winter you can often find summer-themed supplies on sale, such as a luau or Fourth of July theme. Or, if you plan ahead, purchase party supplies after a holiday ends for the next year, such as Easter, Christmas or Thanksgiving. You can also make your own decorations. Posterboard can be cut into different shapes, such as stars or hearts, and then hung on the walls.
Food
Food can be one of the most expensive components of party planning. The first step in saving money on food is scheduling your party. Choose a time between meals, such as after breakfast but before lunch. This avoids having to feed your guests a full meal. When you choose the foods to serve, think of snacks that are inexpensive. Popcorn, chips and pretzels are usually available at reasonable prices. Mix powdered drink for party beverages--these are inexpensive and allow you stretch your dollar a little further. Instead of purchasing a cake or other desserts from a bakery, make your own using a mix, or employ a friend or family member to do it for you.
Party Favors
You can let your party favors save you money by making them work double duty. Choose activities for the guests that allow them to make their own crafts, which they can then take home. This saves you from having to buy supplies for both. You can make your own playdough using water, flour and cornstarch, and then allow the guests to make their own creations with the playdough. You can either bake the finished products and send them home or just let them squash the playdough back down and put it in a bag. Another idea is to give the guests supplies to make their own necklaces. Supply the yarn and beads, and allow your guests to make their own designs.
