Cool Ideas For 14th Birthdays

Talk to your teenager about planning the ultimate birthday bash.

Planning a birthday party for a 14-year-old can be exhausting and challenging. Before planning the party, ask him what kind of party he wants to have, and give him some ideas. If the typical, "I do not care," comes up, then plan a party you think he would enjoy. Teenagers like to hang out with their friends and have a memorable time; therefore, as long as his friends are involved, he will be happy. Does this Spark an idea?

Game Night Party

Set your teenager up with a game night party featuring all of her favorite board games. Invite her friends over for a sleepover or a few hours of birthday fun. Move the table into the living room and place all the games nearby for her and her friends to grab easily. Games can include card games such as blackjack and slap jacks or board games such as Hedbanz and Apples to Apples Junior. Provide snacks such as popcorn, peanuts, trail mixes, pizza and cake and ice cream for dessert.

Scavenger Hunts

Scavenger hunts are a hit at birthday parties because they allow kids to get up and move around while competing. Before the party, pick up a prize pack for the winning team that includes books, games and party favors for the kids to divide among themselves. Create a list of items the kids need to find, such as ketchup packets, plastic spoon, red rock and dustpan. Copy the lists and give one to each child, or one to each team. Once the game is over, the kids come back to the house for cake and ice cream.

Girls' Day

Take the birthday girl and her best friends out for a girls' day. Schedule manicure and pedicure appointments for the girls and take them to the spa. Bring along snacks such as sliced vegetables and fresh fruit for them to munch on during their pamper session, and bottled water. Once the girls are finished, treat them to a lunch at the birthday girl's favorite restaurant and take them to a movie of her choice. If time allows, take the girls to the mall for some retail therapy.

Luau Party

Plan a luau party for the birthday child with some water fun involved. Teenagers enjoy running around and getting their hands wet. Order leis for the kids to wear, and set the house up like a tropical Hawaiian retreat. Hang large paper flowers around the inside and outside of the house, and light tiki torches outside around the patio. Tell kids to bring their swimsuits and set up Slip 'N Slides and water balloon fights, and give them large, super water guns to squirt each other. If you have a pool, open the pool for swimming and set up a friendly game of basketball or volleyball.
