80s Party Cake Decoration Ideas

The 1980s introduced a myriad of images and icons into popular culture. The Pac-Man video game and the rise of the music-video scene are just two examples. Here are a few '80s party cake decoration ideas to add some nostalgia to any fun event.

Pac-Man

A Pac-Man cake is easy to make and represents the video-game craze of the 1980s. Simply frost a round cake with yellow icing and cut out a large slice to form the mouth before serving.

Vinyl Records

Compact discs were still a thing of the future and vinyl albums ruled in the 1980s. Create your own record-themed cake by frosting a round cake with black icing. Use different colors to create the round label in the center, and use a piping tool to write in the song and artist name.

MTV

The launch of the MTV channel in 1981 helped launch the success of '80s bands such as Duran Duran and Bon Jovi. Create an MTV cake by cutting a large, rectangular cake into the letter 'M' and piping the 'tv' onto the bottom right corner.

Rubik's Cube

According to the Rubik's Cube website, approximately one-fifth of the world's population had played with the toy by the mid-1980s. Design a Rubik's Cube cake baking a cube-shaped cake, then adding different colored icing to the top and edges of the cake. The colors of a traditional Rubik's Cube are white, red, blue, orange, green, and yellow

Ghostbusters

In 1984, the movie Ghostbusters was leading the box office. Recreate the logo onto the top of a round, chocolate-frosted cake by piping in a white ghost and then a red circle with slash through the middle.
