Design your own birds of paradise wedding invitations using your computer and printer at home. Why spend hundreds of dollars on professional services for your invitations when you can make them yourself? Add a decorative touch to your invitations with simple craft supplies and a touch of creativity.
Designing the Invitations
Use a graphics program such as Microsoft Picture It or Adobe Photoshop Elements to create your own birds of paradise wedding invitations. Open a new document and set the invitation size to 5-by-7 inches or 4-by-6 inches. Insert a photograph or clip art of the birds of paradise into the new document and position the image where you want it on the card.
Add a colorful frame to the photo using the tools available in the software. Draw a solid colored box at the bottom of the photo and type your wedding information in to the box using the text tool. Use a decorative font and change the color of the text to match the image. Include any pertinent information such as the event location, time and date as well as RSVP information.
Printing the Invitations
Print your invitations on cardstock, linen or parchment paper to lend a professional look. Be sure the paper you choose is of archival quality so that your invitations do not fade or smear overtime. Use a solid color to ensure the photograph prints properly and set your printer to its highest quality setting for photographs.
Decorating the Invitations
Once you have finished printing the invitations, give them a handmade look by laying a sheet of vellum over them to add elegance and a soft matted look to the photograph. Attach the vellum using ribbon or twine tied in a bow, or use decorative brads or eyelets to fasten the vellum to the invitations.
Instead of using vellum, consider matting the invitations on decorative cardstock. Cut the decorative cardstock so it is one-half to 1 inch larger than the invitations. Place a strip of double-sided tape onto the back of the invitations and position them onto the center of the cardstock.
