Beach Party Game Ideas

Use flippers, surfboards and other beach gear to simulate being underwater during a beach party.

You can do a lot more than build sand castles or search for shells during a beach party. With a little creativity, you can bring the ocean to your party guests before you go swimming. Guests of any age will enjoy your beach party and may even be able to bring the beach home with them.

Water Relay Race

Fill two glasses with water from the ocean. Divide your guests into two teams. Line them up along your area of the beach with a fixed distance between each player. The players from each team should be parallel to each other. The player at the head of each line dons flippers and goggles. He must race down his side of the beach area while holding the cup over his head. When he reaches the next player, he hands over the flippers, goggles and cup. If water spills out of the cup, the next player must refill it before continuing the race. The first team to reach the finish line wins.

Musical Towels or Chairs

Play Musical Chairs with either beach chairs or towels. Bring a portable CD player or MP3 player and play summer music such as "California Dreaming." Players may dance or walk on the sand around the chairs or towels. When the music stops, the players must lie down on a towel or sit in a beach chair. The player that is left without a chair or towel is out of the game. The last player left wins.

Ocean Matching Game

Fill a tub with beach water. Write the last name of a famous person or TV character on one side of a toy fish or toy seashell with a waterproof marker and the first name on a different beach-themed toy. Repeat for five to 10 pairs of toys, using different names. Put the toys into the tub. Have the guests pick a toy and try to pick its match in the tub. For an added bonus, have guests name what the person was famous for or what TV show he is on when they make a match.
