The ideal child's birthday cake is both fun and delicious. The cake is often the centerpiece of the party theme, and should be visually appealing as well as tasty. 2. Forget a baked cake, serve an ice cream cake that looks like a cake, yet is purely ice cream. Soften the ice cream and reshape it in any form and re-freeze, then decorate.
3. Add cookies to your cake. This is a special treat for party guests who enjoy a serving of cake and a cookie. Another sweet addition is candy.
4. Think small, single portions and serve cupcakes. Serving is simple with the cupcake format. Tiered cupcake stands are available. Cupcakes can be lined up to make a winding snake cake, or stacked to form a shape or object.
5. Start with a novelty-shaped cake pan. There are hundreds of different styles of novelty-shaped cake pans, such as castles, palm trees, animals, cartoon characters, dinosaurs, trains, cars, planes and many more.
6. Gain inspiration from the child's favorite book, movie, cartoon character or toy. Design a cake using this character or design. Don't be afraid to cut the cake into the desired shape. The pieces cut from the cake can be layered with ice cream to make an ice cream cake.
7. Remember the Rose Parade. Imaginative floats are created using just flowers and plants. A child's birthday cake can be built using that same principle. Instead of flowers or plants, the cake is decorated with frosting, cookies and candies. For example, a piece of black licorice can be used as a spider leg on a scary cake, or the whiskers on a cat cake.
8. Make cake frosting delicious and visually appealing. Include coconut, fruit, whipped cream or traditional sugar frosting.
