Diy Beach House Decor

Peaceful, calm, soothing and tranquil are all adjectives that come to mind when thinking about beach living. There are easy ways that you can extend your time spent at the beach by bringing the décor to your own home, using seaside beauty and clean lines to create your own coastal retreat. Does this Spark an idea?

Seashells

Capture the feeling of collecting seashells on the beach by creating a display for your home with seashells. Either purchase seashells from a craft store or use your own collection of shells. Place your seashells in a glass vase for a dramatic display. Attach extra shells to traditional picture frames or mirrors using a hot glue gun.

Colors

Tranquil colors in pastel greens and blues and white-washed paint can enhance your beach appeal. Decorate your walls with these colors or consider accessories in the same color scheme. Shop antique or discount stores for whitewashed accessories that fit into a beach decor.

Sand

Create your own inexpensive candle display using sand and candles. Fill a clear vase half full of sand, and place your candle. Sand is a textural element to introduce into your home. Sand can also be used as filler when creating your own shadow-boxes for wall display.

Shadow Boxes

Collect some of your favorite items from the beach. Using these items, you can easily create your own artwork. Design the layout of your shadow box. Fill the box with your items. You are then ready to hang your own original creations.

Whitewash

Consider creating your own wall decorations or furniture using a whitewash technique. Traditional furniture can be given new life by applying a whitewash treatment that gives the appearance of being weathered. Clean your furniture. Then prepare the surface of the woodwork by removing--stripping or sanding away--old paint. Apply a whitewash stain. Using a dry rag, dab away excess stain until you achieve the desired look.

Beach Landscape

Dg out all your favorite images of the beach. Dig through the pictures you've taken of sunsets, the sun, the surf and all the things you really love. If you don't have any pictures, take your camera to the beach and capture your favorite parts. Print your images and purchase inexpensive frames to hang your master creations. Use frames with silver accents or made of white material. Using a neutral frame will emphasize the colors of the seaside.
