Diy Fancy Christmas Dresses

Dress up as Mrs. Santa Claus for Christmas fun.

Putting together your own fancy Christmas dress, something Mrs. Santa Claus might wear, is a simple matter of adding some trim to a basic red dress. If you don't have a red dress, you can start with a dress pattern (choose something plain) and some red fabric. But for something you'll probably only wear once for a festive occasion, it's easier to modify an existing red dress by just adding a little white trim. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Start with an old red dress, optimally one with a simple, scoop neckline and straight sleeves. The skirt can be full or A-line. You can even use separates, a red skirt and a red top, if you don't have a dress.

2. Cut out bands of white fake fur to fit and follow the shape of the neckline. Cut bands also for the cuffs of the sleeve and for the hem of the skirt. The bands can be as thick as you like, typically ranging from between 2 inches thick to 5 inches. You may need to sew pieces together to make a band long enough to go around the skirt. Fortunately, fake fur doesn't unravel, so you can leave the edges raw. However, for a more finished look, cut the band thick enough to turn the edges under along the top and bottom sides of the band and stitch them down first.

Alternatively, you can use marabou feather boas for your trim. You'll probably need at least two to have enough to go around the neck, cuffs and hem.

3. Sew the fur band or pieces of the marabou boa along the dress's neckline, at the cuffs or ends of the sleeves and along the skirt hem.

4. Accessorize your fancy Christmas dress by adding a wide black belt, with a big buckle, similar to what Santa Claus would wear. Optionally, you could add a Santa hat as well. This finishes your outfit.
