Make appetizers that celebrate your student's graduation.
Graduation parties are a time of celebrating past accomplishments and anticipating upcoming opportunities. Whether a student is heading off to college, more education or a career, the food at a graduation party can highlight the studies, activities and items surrounding the life of the graduate. Serve graduation themed appetizers at your party to kick off the celebration. Does this Spark an idea?
Roll Ups
Make roll-ups of various ingredients to symbolize the rolled diploma your graduate received. You can roll lunch meat or cheese into tubes. For a more hearty appetizer, cut tortillas or other flatbreads into squares fill them with vegetables, meats, cheeses or spreads of your choice. Roll them closed. Tie them closed with a green onion, scallion, chive or other herb. Make canollis or spread jams or sweet creams on a tortilla or bread for a sweet option.
Caps
Graduation caps make a special appearance on the heads of many graduates. Bring them to your appetizer table as well. You can place a cookie on top of a candy, such as a peanut butter cup or a gum drop, for a sweet snack. Fuse the pieces together with peanut butter. For a more savory option, place a cracker, smeared with a cream cheese and dill or onion spread, on top of a cylinder cut from a cucumber or carrot. You can also use mushrooms, to look like little caps.
Local Sliders
If your graduate has attended school or is headed to school in a location with a particularly culinary culture, make mini sliders to reflect the area. For instance, if your graduate is from Hawaii or went to school there, make a burger with a pineapple sauce. If she is affiliated with the Atlantic shoreline, make a crab or lobster spread for the sliders. If she is from Wisconsin, make cheese the highlight.
Late Night Snacks
Play on the idea of late night study sessions, and make some traditional favorites. Slice a pizza into small bite-sized portions so your guests can munch on the pieces. You can also make little pizzas on mini bagels or crackers.
Letters and Numbers
Purchase a set of letters and number cookie cutters. Make a batch of cookies or crackers and cut them into letters and numbers. Spell out your graduate's name, the year of his graduation or the name of his school. You can also make sandwiches and cut out your graduate's initials or the last two numbers of the year of the graduation.
