Fun Hawaiian Games & Crafts

Seashell jewelry-making is a fun Hawaiian craft.

Kick off the summer by throwing a Hawaiian-themed party for your family and friends. Whether it is a party for kids, adults or both, plan a few fun games and crafts to keep your guests busy. Guests can take home their Hawaiian crafts as mementos of the party. Awarding prizes, such as coconuts and grass skirts, to game winners can encourage everyone to participate. Does this Spark an idea?

Coconut Game

Divide the players into two teams and have each team line up in a single-file line. Give the first player in each line a coconut. When you say, "Go," the first player in line must place the coconut under his chin. Using only his neck and chin, he must pass the coconut to the next person in line. She must take the coconut using only her neck and chin. If the coconut drops on the floor at any time, the team must start over with the first player in line. Players cannot use their hands to help pass the coconut. The first team to get the coconut all the way down their team line and back to the first player in line wins the game.

Sand Crafts

Place construction paper, glue and colored sand on a table. Guests will use the glue to draw a picture and sprinkle the colored sand on the picture to add color. For example, someone could use the glue to draw a palm tree. Use brown sand for the trunk and green sand for the leaves. For another sand craft, give each guest a small plastic or glass jar. Guests can fill the jar with layers of colored sand to make a jar of sand art to take home.

Hawaiian Limbo

Have two guests hold a bamboo stick in the air. Bamboo sticks are available at most hardware stores. If you do not have a bamboo stick, use a broomstick without the broom. Play reggae music and have the players line up to go under the bamboo stick. Each time all the guests go under the stick, lower the stick another 2 inches. If a player touches the stick, he is out of the game. The player who can go the lowest under the stick without falling down or touching the stick wins the game.

Jewelry Crafts

Create a table for your party guests to make their own Hawaiian-themed jewelry. Place seashell beads, scissors, elastic, string, hemp rope, flower beads, jewelry clasps and glue on the table. Guests can make bracelets, necklaces and anklets to take home as a party favor. If you have young children, have an adult help them create their jewelry.
