Whether you want to celebrate your pet's birthday, hold a block birthday party for all the pets in your neighborhood or throw a bash to celebrate the anniversary of the local shelter, you can find a surprising number of supplies specifically created for dog and cat parties. Invitations
Pet party invitations are available at some pet stores or can be printed off the Internet for free. Invitations are available with either a cat or dog theme. Alternatively, you could make your own using a desktop publishing or video program; use photos of your pet if you plan to use postal invitations or a video if you will email them.
Cakes, Cookies and Treats
You can buy doggie birthday cakes, cookies and treats made with flour, vegetables, chicken broth or peanut butter and yogurt or carob chips. Many cakes are iced and come with personalized messages or paintings of Rover or Fluffy. Others are shaped like bones, hearts or even mice. Gift baskets can be filled with cookies, cupcakes and treats. However, be sure to clearly identify which party treats are for pets and which are for humans --- a mix-up can be dangerous for pets and unpleasant for humans.
Party Decorations
What's a pet party without cute photos of Fifi or Kitty in a birthday hat? The guest of honor may receive a hat or T-shirt reading "Birthday Boy" or "Birthday Girl"; guests can wear hats with paw prints, bones or mice. Festive party collars made of feathers or organza, or party hair bows, are other possibilities. Balloons and banners are available with paw prints or customized birthday messages.
Party Favors
Party favors for Fido's guests can include small dog chew toys, festive collars, pet jewelry or alcohol-free doggy "wine" or "beer." Fluffy's guests might receive mouse or feather toys, bags of catnip or jeweled collars. Additional favors might include a bag of edible birthday treats, such as treats with catnip mixed in, or jerky for dogs.
