Budget Party Food Ideas

Plan a great party without the high costs.

Planning a party on a budget does not need to put a damper on your menu. You can plan to make a variety of different foods for a party, even if you are on a budget, by choosing the menu items wisely. There are many menu options to explore for any budget party planner. Does this Spark an idea?

Cooking Party

Decide on a few dishes to serve at your party and make a list of the ingredients you need. Ask each guest to bring specific ingredients off of the list and cook the meals together at your home during the party. This idea turns your entertainment into food and vice versa. Plan the dishes so that you have time to eat them. A pot roast may sound good, but it might not be done until the guests are gone. Choose grilled recipes or recipes that bake in a short amount of time.

PotLuck

Hold a potluck party. Each guest is only responsible his own dish, so costs are extremely low and you can have a very expensive dinner that won't cost any one individual much money. As the host, you can either provide drinks, dessert or a main course yourself. If you are going for a specific type of cuisine, let your guests know. For example, if the party is outdoors ask each guest to bring a picnic or barbecue style dish.

Dessert and Coffee

Hold a celebration without all of the stress of planning a menu. Serve coffee or other beverages with dessert. Bake a cake or some cookies and serve coffee for conversation at your gathering. Set the time for your party between or after meals, so that your guests are not expecting a meal when they arrive, or simply state on your invitations that the party food will be dessert and coffee.

Budget Buffet

Serve your food on a large buffet table so that your guests can pick and choose what they want to eat. Include budget-friendly dishes like sloppy Joes, fried or baked potatoes, macaroni salad and lasagna. Lay out some appetizers like crackers and cheese or a veggie tray with dip. Include desserts like a homemade cake, cookies or even fruit salad. Even with inexpensive foods, a buffet can be a big hit because of the variety of foods available.
