Centerpiece Ideas With Sealife

Centerpieces are a fun accent to any party.

A centerpiece is a great way to accent your party decor at any type of celebration. If you're having an ocean or sea-related themed party, centerpieces are great places to feature decorations with sealife. Does this Spark an idea?

Candles

Candles are a simple and classy way to decorate any table, and those shaped like sea life, seashells or coral are great for a beach theme. If you can't find any candled shaped to suit your needs, decorate the outside of any candle or votive using sea shells or paint sea life on the candles.

Floating candles are another appropriate option. Get floating candles in the shapes of your favorite sea creatures. Place them in a shallow dish or a vase filled with water. For an extra decorative touch, fill the bottom of your dish with sand, shells, pebbles or coral to create an "under the sea" look.

Decorating the outside of the bowl is another way to spice up your decorations and add a bit more color. Even tying a large ribbon around the bowl can provide a simple and elegant splash.

If you decide to light your candles and you're celebrating outdoors, be aware of wind, which can snuff out the candles rather quickly.

Sand Castles

Sand castles are another feature of the seaside that inspire centerpieces for your event. Consider creating your own sand castles in the center of each table (do this on a large plate or shallow bowl for easy clean-up) or purchase some fake ones as a sturdier alternative. Decorate your sand castles with shells, starfish, crabs and other sea life. Consider adding small footprints, rocks, water or driftwood into the sand surrounding the castle for a realistic look. Or, add some fresh-cut flowers to add a little color and life to your castle.

When designing your sand castles, pay attention to the colors you're using. Stay away from tan and beige since they tend to fade into the sand and don't draw much attention. A bright white can look very stunning against a sandy backdrop. Or consider using bright colors that will really pop.

For The Kiddies

If you're throwing a party for kids and looking for something to entertain them, an edible centerpiece is sure to please. Put a large bowl, or a few small bowls, in the middle of the table and fill them with sea life treats. Swedish fish are great for old and young alike. There are also many different flavors and sizes of goldfish crackers. Your local grocery store's fruit snack aisle may also have sea life-inspired treats that would work well. Or create your own treats using sugar cookies or even Jell-o. A fun treat can be created by making blue gelatin, then sticking gummy sea creatures into the gelatin when it's almost done setting, so it looks like sea creatures are swimming in the ocean.

If your centerpiece still feels like it's lacking something, add some ocean-themed balloons or a table runner that matches the theme.
