Decorating Ideas For A Ladies Spring Banquet

Many organizations hold a ladies' banquet or luncheon in the spring, either as a fundraiser or a thank-you for volunteers. If you are in charge of decorating for such an event, strive to make it beautiful; whether the ladies are being asked to donate or thanked for their hard work, they will feel appreciated and lean favorably toward continued affiliation with your organization. Does this Spark an idea?

Color Palette

Decide on the colors you want to use as a theme for your ladies' spring banquet. Using multiple pastel shades is always popular in the spring, especially for Easter. If your banquet is not a church function, consider choosing a light or medium green for the major color (to suggest new grass), and one contrasting flower color, such as pale cherry blossom pink or deep purple (tulips, irises, violets).

Table Linens

If your ladies' banquet is a formal affair, meet with your caterer to choose table linens in the colors you have chosen. For instance, if your colors are green and pink, try green tablecloths and pink napkins, tied with a green ribbon. If you're using multiple pastel shades, use a different color for each tablecloth. For a party on a small budget, you can find inexpensive plastic tablecloths in every shade imaginable at party stores and even dollar stores. Or consider asking each member of the party planning committee to bring in one floral or pastel-colored tablecloth from home. Each table will be unique, and the room will be a riot of color, like a wildflower garden.

Centerpieces

For a spring banquet, the centerpieces will naturally be flowers. A florist can design elaborate floral centerpieces incorporating your theme colors, but professional flower arrangements are very expensive. If you're organizing this party on a budget, or your organization is a nonprofit that is looking to get the most bang for your buck, consider potted flowering plants. Check out the garden center in your local big-box discount store or hardware store for potted daffodils, tulips, or crocuses. If they are not already in decorative planters, use some ribbon and a hot glue gun to decorate the pots they are in.

Wall Decor

How much and what to put on the walls depends on the room in which your banquet will be held. If the hall has large windows opening onto a garden or manicured golf course, no additional wall decor will be necessary. If the hall is without windows but has high ceilings, rent a few trees in pots to fill in the shadowy corners, or drape a gauzy fabric from a central point in the ceiling and down the walls. If the space has low ceilings and small windows, add interest with large, inexpensive prints in poster frames. Prints of famous artwork with a springtime theme or oversized photos of flowers would work well, especially if you coordinate the dominant colors of the artwork with your banquet's theme colors.

Small Items

To complete the decor, continue the floral or color themes in small items such as place cards and favors. If each table has a different tablecloth, use cardstock that matches the tablecloths instead of numbering the tables. For favors, packets of wildflower seeds continue the springtime theme, or give each guest a small, decorative bag of chocolate candies in the events' theme colors.
