5th Grade Graduation Themes

Celebrate your school's graduates by creating a themed graduation ceremony.

One milestone of a student's schooling is graduation from elementary school. Students, parents and grandparents attend this event, so it is important to create a ceremony for all to enjoy. Properly acknowledge this accomplishment and host a themed graduation for the fifth-grade students leaving your school.

School Mascot

Celebrate the last time your students will represent your elementary school and create a graduation based on your mascot. Tie this in throughout the ceremony, including the invitations and decor. If a tiger is your mascot, invite parents and caregivers to the event by printing invitations on tiger-striped paper. Enlist the participants to paint a large banner saying, "Fifth Grade Graduation," and include images of the tiger along its borders.

"Oh, the Places You'll Go"

Choose a Dr. Seuss theme for your graduation celebration. Teach fifth-grade classes a few verses of the Dr. Seuss book, "Oh, the Places You'll Go," and ask them to recite the poem at the graduation ceremony. Enlist the help of students to create additional Dr. Seuss-themed decorations such as red and white striped hats for family members to wear during the ceremony. Cut a long piece of butcher paper and write, "Oh the Places You'll Go," using a black marker. Provide family members with markers to write congratulatory messages to the graduating class on the banner.

Growing Tree

Decorate your graduation ceremony using a growing tree theme. Use brown butcher paper and create a large tree trunk with empty branches, such as a kapok tree. Write, "Our Growing Fifth Graders," on the tree and hang it on the wall of your ceremony location. Give each fifth-grader a paper leaf inside of his diploma and ask him to place his leaf on the tree after walking across the stage. Add additional tree decor around the room using fake trees, branches and flowers.

Space

Host a space-themed graduation. Create a banner that says, "Our Fifth Graders are Out of This World!" Hang this over the stage or on a wall at the ceremony. Ask the graduates to create various planets and stars out of construction paper. Punch a hole in the top of each decoration and use fishing line to hang it from the ceiling. Use black lights or glow in the dark paint or stickers to enhance the theme.
