Christmas Theme Party Ideas For Kids

The Christmas season is magical for children, and they often find great delight in participating in Christmas parties. While it is entirely possible to have a generic Christmas party, creating one with a theme might add to the fun and memories of the occasion. The right Christmas themes might also help to communicate the meaning of Christmas beyond the presents under the tree. Does this Spark an idea?

Nativity Party

Nativity parties help children to think about and experience the story of Christmas on a deeper level. Ask the kids to come dressed as a different character in the nativity. Set up a nativity scene in your home or yard and print a nativity script from the Internet. Several are available to choose from, so read carefully and pick something that corresponds with the theological beliefs of your tradition. Have the children read their parts in the script and act out the nativity. Follow the nativity re-enactment with a celebratory meal filled with Christmas favorites.

Gifts of Jesus Party

The Wise Men brought gifts to Jesus when he was born, but the gifts that Jesus brought to us were even greater. Instead of having the children bring material gifts to the party, ask each child to write down a gift that Jesus has given us and put it in a sealed envelope. During the party, deposit all of the envelopes into a jar or a box and have the children randomly choose an envelope. Over a traditional Christmas dinner, ask each child to open his envelope and talk about the meaning of the gift he has received from Jesus.

Sacred Christmas Music Party

Sacred music can uplift the spirit and help believers to connect with the Spirit of God. Sacred Christmas music ranges from hymns to classical pieces, gospel music and popular music with a sacred message. Ask each child attending the Christmas party to bring a CD featuring a sacred Christmas song that is important to her. Play the music while the children eat and socialize, and conclude the evening by asking the children to share why they chose the Christmas songs they chose.

Caroling Party

Caroling is a traditional way of spreading the meaning of Christmas. Ask children to come dressed for the weather. Have hymnbooks ready so that children can practice singing carols together. After some practice, head out caroling in your neighborhood or at a local nursing home. Return home for some hot cider and Christmas cookies to complete the evening.
