Fun Things To Do In Nyc With Kids

As the city that never sleeps, New York is known as an exciting and thrilling place renowned for its vast range of activities. For kids, New York offers numerous fun and different things to do that provide a mix of cultural, historical and interactive attractions, which provide nonstop entertainment for kids young and old.


Central Park


Covering 843 acres of land, Central Park is a must-see destination for any kid visiting New York. The park is not only a picturesque wonder with its classic architecture and greenery, but it offers kids a great place to play sports, see a play, and run wild on the park's numerous recreational playgrounds. Additional activities found in Central Park include: The Central Park Zoo, the scenic Belvedere Castle, the Delacorte Theatre, ice skating rinks, a swimming pool, a carousel, row boating, biking and walking trails, playgrounds, sports facilities, lakes and two full-service restaurants, including the Tavern on the Green and the Boathouse Restaurant overlooking the lake.


The Children's Museum of Manhattan


With five floors of exploration, a kid will surely become quickly immersed in the interactive and fun exhibits at The Children's Museum of Manhattan. The facilities at CMOM are designed to be educational but offer kids engaging programs to promote interaction and learning in a playful way. Some programs of interest include: the PlayWorks floor designed for pre-schoolers, the Greek Gods and Myths exhibits, the Healthy Living program, and a baby/toddler area for beginning and pre-walkers. Additional features include: daily workshops, classes, and musical and theatrical performances, which are all free with admission to CMOM.


The Bronx Zoo


As the largest metropolitan zoo, The Bronx Zoo is home to more than 6,000 species of animals. This wondrous zoo also features a plethora of activities for kids, including: the Congo Gorilla Forest exhibit, an interactive wildlife theater, wild Asia monorail, rides and attractions, a Butterfly Garden, a bug carousel, penguins, camel rides and face painting.


Empire State Building


The Empire State Building is a national landmark in New York City renowned for its spectacular architecture and breathtaking views of the city. The stunning Observatory deck on the 86th floor is surely a jaw-dropping and exciting outing for kids as they experience a panoramic view of the city and neighboring states. Kids will also have fun in the lobby of the Empire State Building, which offers the New York Skyride, an interactive and virtual tour of New York City. In the lobby they will also find numerous displays of art and movie memorabilia, including posters from "King Kong," old photographs, and occasional concerts and special events.


FAO Schwarz


As one of the oldest toy stores in The United States, FAO Schwarz offers kids an exciting and thrilling opportunity to play and interact with their favorite toys. The store's flagship location is in Manhattan and is in close proximity to Central Park where kids can see the famous FAO Schwarz 22-foot-long piano from the movie "Big," life-size Lego figures, toy soldiers, and virtually any toy that a kid would want. Though toys can be pricey, parents may be able to escape this amazing toy store with a small purchase at the store's specialty candy store.
