A 13th birthday party is tricky to plan. A teenager does not want a childish party, but you do not want to give him too much freedom. There are several party planning compromises that can be made in order to throw an age appropriate party for a 13-year-old boy or girl. Does this Spark an idea?
Sleepover
A 13-year-old girl will enjoy having a few of her closest friends over for a sleepover. Send out invitations for the birthday party two to three weeks in advance and make sure to tell the girls to bring along a pillow and a sleeping bag. Serve fun party foods, such as chips and dip, chicken wings and pizza. Plan several activities for the girls to keep them occupied during the night, including movies, pillow case decorating and cupcake making. Ask a friend or family member to come over and give the girls makeovers complete with a new hair style, manicures and a makeup lesson. The next morning, feed the girls breakfast and take the group shopping at a local mall until it is time for them to go home.
Camp Out
A group of teenage boys will enjoy a camping adventure, complete with a roaring fire and ghost stories. Set up for the party by pitching several tents, constructing a fire pit and setting out games and activities to keep the boys occupied during the camp out. Plan an activity to allow the boys a real outdoor adventure before the camp out begins. This could include taking them for a hike, white water rafting or a trip to an indoor rock wall. After the activity, bring the boys back and serve them a traditional camping meal, complete with hamburgers over an open fire, beans and smores.
Seasonal Party
Plan party activities for the teenagers that are centered around the weather. For instance, a boy that is celebrating a birthday during the summer can have a party at the beach complete with a barbecue, fireworks and games to play with his friends in the water, from football to Frisbee. A party during the winter can be centered around skiing, snowboarding or sledding. Take a group of teenagers out for a fun time in the snow and then bring them home to sit around a roaring fire and feast on hot chocolate and cookies.
