Halloween Attractions In Hawaii

Hawaii abounds with Halloween attractions.

In Hawaii, Halloween night need not be comprised of freezing temperatures or barren trees to induce a spooky good time. From the celebration in Lahaina town on Maui to the live bands and costume contests at Pirates Cove on the Big Island, Halloween in Hawaii is sure to bring residents and visitors alike the bone-chilling spirit of this fright night, despite its warm, tropical surroundings.

Lahaina

Front Street in Lahaina has become famous (or infamous depending on the perspective) for playing host to a city-wide block party full of outrageous costumes, stage shows and raucous parties. After getting out of hand in recent years with such problems as underage drinking and vandalism, the Lahaina block party has been toned down, but not altogether closed down.

Revelers can still stroll Front Street--closed to traffic--in costume and enjoy people watching and the ambiance of this old whaling town, a spot where spirits are said to haunt, Halloween night or not.

Pirates Cove

The eerie and gothic town of Ocean View on the southern end of the Big Island offers an apt setting for the annual Pirates Cove Halloween party. There's a clamshell bar, rope bridges, sand dance floor and all manner of authentic sailor and seafaring memorabilia.

Proprietor Larry Cassidy, a salty shipwright and sailor, hosts the party that features live bands, pot luck and costume contests as well as a wacky assortment of party guests, some of whom don't even need a costume to look right at home. Cassidy charges a nominal cover charge and can be reached at 808-929-8070.

Haunted Lagoon Canoe Ride

The Haunted Lagoon Canoe Ride at the Polynesian Cultural Center on the North Shore of Oahu is a seasonal attraction that opens Oct. 1 each year. Brave souls embarking on the lagoon attraction may encounter strange tunnels, creepy apparitions and frightening sounds. The park also has a ride suitable for smaller children.

Hawaii's Haunted Plantation

At Hawaii's Plantation Village Indoor-Outdoor Museum in Waipahu, Oahu, a haunted house features ghosts, monsters, zombies, graveyards and foggy effects designed to scare the daylights out of visitors. This professionally presented attraction is open every year in October and admits adults and children over age 13.
