Good Costume Ideas For Halloween

Costumes are a fun way to celebrate Halloween.

Coming up with a good, creative Halloween costume can be a challenge; it can be too easy to revert to the traditional witch and zombie costumes. When you want to attend Halloween events with an unexpected or funny costume, choose simple options or plays on words and familiar phrases.

Static Cling

When you're pressed for time, make an easy and inexpensive static cling costume. Wear solid-colored clothing as a base, like sweatpants and a T-shirt. Choose clothing that does not rip or pull easily. To represent static cling, pin various laundry items to your outfit: socks, underwear and dryer sheets are all common victims of static cling in the dryer. As a finishing touch on the costume, use hairspray to make your hair stick out in all directions.

Bag of Jelly Beans

For a costume that makes a big, whimsical statement, go as a bag of jelly beans. Start with a base of white clothing and attach a bunch of small, colored balloons all over your torso and hips. Blow up the balloons so they have a good deal of flexibility and will not pop easily. Find a big, clear bag, cut holes for your arms and legs, and slide it over your body. Fill the bag with more small balloons so it puffs out. Tie it at your neck with a ribbon.

Black-Eyed Pea

Make a play-on-words costume by going as a black-eyed pea. This costume can be customized, depending on your availability of time and money. For a simple costume, pin or sew a big "P" on the front of a T-shirt; for a more elaborate version, dress all in green and pin letters all over your outfit. Paint one eye black to finish the costume.

Neighbor of the Beast

For a comical take on a scary theme, go as 665 -- neighbor of the beast. Buy a simple T-shirt and paint the number 665 on the front and "Neighbor of the beast" on the back. You can use a simple T-shirt for a quick costume or wear red from head to toe, paint your face red and wear devil horns for extra effect.
