Good Ideas For A Summer Birthday Party

Friends of all ages can enjoy a celebration on the beach.


With the arrival of warm weather comes the opportunity for party planners to employ their creativity toward outdoor summer birthday party ideas. They can forgo the indoor recreation room parties and opt for a celebration under the sun. Use the honoree's summertime interests as a guide for planning a customized summer birthday party. Beach Party


Party planners can arrange a party on the beach for children or adults. For children, set up beach towels on the sand for seating and serve simple finger foods, such as fruits, raw vegetables and sandwiches. For games, organize a limbo competition, water balloon toss, a scavenger hunt and a round of Marco Polo in the water. Party favors can include swimming goggles, flip-flops, beach towels and sun visors. Adults can enjoy a party on the beach as well, with swimming, a friendly beach volleyball competition and a barbecue. Parents can also decorate a backyard for a beach party, with sand boxes and toys, wading pools and sprinklers.


Carnival Party


Turn a backyard into a private carnival for a birthday celebration. Set up a rented party tent and organize a variety of games underneath it, such as beanbag toss games, ring toss games and a duck pond grab, where players choose floating duck from a pool in search of the one with the winning number on the bottom. Let winners of each game pick a small prize from a pillowcase at the "prize booth." Rent a large bounce house, a cotton candy machine and one or two small kiddie rides if the budget allows. Offer face painting and practice beforehand to learn make balloon animals. Serve hot dogs, nachos and cheese or pizza, as well as candied apples and birthday cake for dessert. Make sure each child wins enought prizes to fill a goody bag to bring home.


Luau Party


Host an outdoor summer luau for a party group of any age. For children, host the party during the day. Decorate the backyard with inflatable palm trees, tropical-themed tablecloths and colorful balloons and play tropical music. Serve fresh fruits with dip, miniature Hawaiian pizzas and child-size shish kabobs. For dessert, make a birthday cake in the shape of a pineapple. Banana splits would be a treat, too. Play games, such as hula hoop contests, water balloon tosses and limbo. For a party activity and party favors, have children make silk-flower leis to bring home and add a pair of sunglasses and flip-flops. For adults, host the luau birthday party in the evening, decorate the backyard with clear or colored strings of lights and tiki torches and turn the drinks table into a tiki hut. Serve piña coladas, mai tais and pineapple daiquiris and provide a barbecue dinner with shish kabobs and Hawaiian barbecue beef short ribs.


Water Park Party


For children, and even the young at heart, party planners can arrange a birthday party at an outdoor water park. Daredevil guests can spend the day riding on the waterslides, while the more timid can relax on a ride along a lazy river or soak in the hot tub. Many water parks have an interactive play area for young children and a wave pool. Some have flo-riders that simulate surfing. Party packages usually include a private party area, lunch, party supplies and party favors for each guest.
