Church & School Fundraising Ideas

A car wash is a popular fundraiser with the potential to make money in a short period of time.

The best fundraisers are those that raise a lot of money without having to invest a lot of money in doing so. It's these types of fundraisers that are typically carried out in schools and churches to raise money for new uniforms, construction additions and field trips.

Discount Cards

Discount cards are wallet-sized cards that allow customers to receive discounts at local stores and restaurants. Think of them as VIP cards, as they can usually be used more than once over a predetermined period of time. Common savings might be 10 percent off an entire order, or "buy one, get one free" deals. These cards can be sold by schools or churches to people in the community at a price where they can reach their desired fundraising goals. Selling coupon books is a similar fundraiser idea.

Donor Bricks

A donor brick fundraiser is a popular way for schools and churches to raise funds by publicly recognizing those that helped them do it. With this fundraiser, people are able to buy a brick with their name laser-engraved into it. These bricks are then embedded into a nearby sidewalk or into a landscape for public display. The fundraiser can also be modified so that those who donate more money receive larger or multiple bricks for increased recognition.

Golf Outings

Golf outing fundraisers can be very lucrative. But at the same time, they require great detail in planning and cooperation from Mother Nature. With golf fundraisers, students or church members attempt to recruit foursomes of golfers to play on an outing. Golf courses typically package a per-person deal that includes 18 holes of golf and dinner, and schools and churches typically charge 20-35 percent more per-person to make a profit. Additional revenue can be gained through 50-50 raffles, pay-to-play closest-to-the-pin and longest drive competitions and businesses purchasing per-hole sponsorships. With hole sponsorship, students or church members get area businesses to pay to sponsor a hole. Then a sign is made and placed at the tee box on the hole they choose. Raffle tickets can also be sold for a chance to win prizes.

Car Wash

Car wash fundraisers are simple, fast, and because there are minimal supplies required to hold such a fundraiser, the earning potential is high. All that's needed are soap, water, sponges, drying towels, enthusiastic students or church members and a place to hold it. Good locations are corner gas stations or businesses on busy streets so a greater amount of people can be made aware of it. It's common to have students or church members waving signs at these corners that tell what the car wash is for in an effort to reel more cars in.
