Traditional Birthday Party
Plan a traditional birthday party a couple weeks before or after Christmas. Avoid using any Christmas-themed decorations, food, desserts or invitations. If the birthday party is in your home, do the birthday girl a favor and take down as many of your Christmas decorations as you can. Decorate with brightly colored streamers, balloons and confetti. Make her a birthday cake of her favorite flavor, and wrap the gifts in birthday wrapping paper. Ask guests not to use Christmas wrapping paper for her birthday gifts and not to arrive dressed for a holiday party. As many families are busy near the holidays with other festivities, it is best to send out the invitations at least a month before the date of the party.
Birthday Cake
Even if the birthday person doesn't have a party separate from Christmas, he is still able to have a birthday cake. During your holiday party, serve a birthday cake as one of the desserts and ask the guests to sing "Happy Birthday" before he blows out the candles. Give him a moment to celebrate his birthday before the holiday activities commence.
Birthday Gifts
Avoid combining birthday and Christmas gifts. Give her a separate gift for birthday and Christmas. If she will be opening both gifts on Christmas morning, put her birthday gifts in traditional birthday paper, as opposed to being mixed in with the rest of the Christmas gifts.
