Christmas Birthday Ideas

Decorate with traditional, brightly-colored birthday decorations.

Celebrating a birthday for someone who was born on Christmas is a daunting task. A person who shares a birthday with this holiday has celebrated many birthdays on Christmas, where the parties, cakes and gifts were combined for both occasions. Everyone deserves their own birthday celebration, so make it special with a traditional birthday party, free of Christmas-themed decorations. Does this Spark an idea?

Traditional Birthday Party

Plan a traditional birthday party a couple weeks before or after Christmas. Avoid using any Christmas-themed decorations, food, desserts or invitations. If the birthday party is in your home, do the birthday girl a favor and take down as many of your Christmas decorations as you can. Decorate with brightly colored streamers, balloons and confetti. Make her a birthday cake of her favorite flavor, and wrap the gifts in birthday wrapping paper. Ask guests not to use Christmas wrapping paper for her birthday gifts and not to arrive dressed for a holiday party. As many families are busy near the holidays with other festivities, it is best to send out the invitations at least a month before the date of the party.

Birthday Cake

Even if the birthday person doesn't have a party separate from Christmas, he is still able to have a birthday cake. During your holiday party, serve a birthday cake as one of the desserts and ask the guests to sing "Happy Birthday" before he blows out the candles. Give him a moment to celebrate his birthday before the holiday activities commence.

Birthday Gifts

Avoid combining birthday and Christmas gifts. Give her a separate gift for birthday and Christmas. If she will be opening both gifts on Christmas morning, put her birthday gifts in traditional birthday paper, as opposed to being mixed in with the rest of the Christmas gifts. Let her know you are recognizing that this day is also her birthday. Give her a chance to open up her birthday gifts before the family opens their Christmas gifts.

Christmas Birthday Party

Throw him a Christmas-themed birthday party if he is open to the idea. Choose candy cane invitations, red and green balloons and other decorations. Have the guests wear Santa hats in place of birthday hats, and give out bags of Christmas candy for party favors. Have a family member or friend dress up as Santa or Mrs. Claus to hand out his birthday presents that are wrapped in Christmas paper. Decorate his birthday cake with reindeer and a Christmas tree on top. Play a Christmas version of "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" by pinning the nose on the reindeer.
