Graduation parties are a great way to celebrate a big milestone.
Graduation is a wonderful time both for you and your child. Throwing a graduation party is a great way to celebrate your child's accomplishments, whether he or she has graduated from high school, college or graduate school. However, at this age, your child is likely not to want the same kind of themed parties you may have thrown for her when she was younger. Still, that doesn't mean that you have to have a boring party with no theme. Several themed parties will still let you have the graduation party of your child's dreams...with a touch of class. Does this Spark an idea?
Tea Party
A time-honored tradition, a tea party is a great way to celebrate your child's graduation with style. Keep the party relatively small and decorate with the best: fine linen, good china. A lot of these items can be rented for the day from a party rental company, which you can find in your local Yellow Pages or online. Have a selection of teas and coffee on hand, as well as typical tea party treats: cupcakes and petit-fours, as well as cucumber and salmon sandwiches---without crusts, of course!
Hollywood Party
If you want to have a party in the evening, a Hollywood party can be a great way to bring a touch of class to your soir e. Have guests dress for the red carpet (which, by the way, you can rent from a party rental company for the evening) in suits---or tuxedos---and fancy dresses. This can be a great excuse for girls to use old prom dresses or other formal dresses they may have acquired throughout high school and college. Black and white stills of famous movie stars, such as Grace Kelly and Cary Grant, will add even more class to the evening.
College or Career Party
Celebrate your child's accomplishments by celebrating the future he or she has chosen. For example, if your child is going off to college, throw a party themed around the college he has chosen. Decorate in the college's colors, hang pictures of famous alumni from the university and make your child's acceptance letter the centerpiece of the room! You can also play around with the school's mascot (for example, if your child is going to Brown, make the centerpieces bears). Similarly, if your child has just graduated from college, try a party themed around his future career. If he's a lawyer, wigs and gavels can make amusing decorations; if she's a doctor, stethoscopes can be great centerpieces. Be creative and have fun with the decorations.
