A great party doesn't require great expense, it requires great ideas.
Throwing a successful party doesn't have to mean throwing away lots of money on expensive food, as well as pricey decorations and supplies that you'll use just once. And being frugal with your party planning doesn't mean you have to settle for putting on a flimsy event. Creativity and a well-chosen cheap theme party idea can result in an unexpectedly impressive event.
Graffiti Party
Although many college fraternities hold risque graffiti parties, you can easily turn this cheap party theme into a tasteful party for kids or teenagers. Hang white paper on the walls, use white tablecloths, set out white paper plates and cups and ask your guests to wear white t-shirts. Provide them with plenty of markers in various colors and encourage them to decorate all the white surfaces, including each other's shirts.
Tacky Party Theme
The Reason To Party website recommends a "tacky party" theme, which costs very little to host. Rather than spending money on new decorations, use a mish-mash of holiday and yard decorations to create a tacky atmosphere. Play childhood games, such as limbo, Twister and smashing a pinata. Serve simple foods, such as hot dogs and Sloppy Joe sandwiches.
Garden Party
If the weather is warm and you have a decent backyard, turn to the garden party theme for a birthday, bridal shower or baby shower. Use elements from your own garden to decorate the area, such as watering cans, potted plants and smooth rocks. Serve light and simple foods, such as fresh salads, cold sandwiches and sweet desserts. If you grow your own fruits, vegetables and flowers and have enough to go around, send the guests home with a selection of your harvest as a party favor.
