Checklist For Baby Shower Supplies

Save money by planning a baby shower several weeks ahead of time.

Planning a baby shower is a daunting experience. There are many items and ideas to keep organized, from the invitations and decorations to the shower games and party favors. Having a clear and concise list of items required for the shower before the planning stage even begins will ensure that the event runs smoothly, and on budget. Does this Spark an idea?

Invitations

Invitations for the event should be chosen, filled out and mailed at least two to three weeks before the event. Invitations can be handmade or purchased at craft, department and party planning stores. Include any pertinent information on the invitation, including the date, time and location of the party. You may also want to include the baby's gender and a list of items that you still need for him or her, including bibs, diapers and clothing.

Decorations

Purchase the items needed to decorate the event approximately one to two weeks before the day of the party. Basic decorations may include blue or pink streamers, balloons, centerpieces and wall hangings. The amount of decorations required will depend upon the size of the event. Gender-specific and gender-neutral items can be found at party supply stores or department stores. Theme decorations can also be purchased as well. For instance, parents that are interested in golf may enjoy a party that is decorated with children's golf items and golf accessories, including centerpieces constructed from golf balls and tees.

Shower Games

Shower games allow the guests at the party the opportunity to win prizes and have fun with the mother-to-be. Traditional baby shower games include the diaper pin game, which involves each woman wearing a diaper pin. Once the woman crosses her legs and it is noticed, the woman that calls it out wins the diaper pin. The woman with the most pins at the end of the shower wins. Baby shower game kits can also be located at party supply stores. A pen and pieces of paper can be used for games such as guessing the baby's name or identifying the name of an adult and baby animal. Limit the number of games to three to four in order to ensure the party remains on budget and is not too long.

Party Favors

Party favors can be given as prizes for the baby shower games or simply as a thank you for attending the affair. Choose small, inexpensive gifts and avoid purchasing gifts for specific party guests. Party favors ideas include small candles, lotion sets, nail care products, home items, picture frames and inexpensive pieces of jewelry. Wrap the gifts in baby-themed wrapping paper or place all of the items out and allow the guests to choose their own.
