Dressing in a group can give your costume idea more punch and make Halloween more fun. Gather your closest friends and brainstorm together for costume ideas, and then you can decide whether to purchase the costumes or make them at home. Have fun dressing as a team this Halloween.
Food Groups
Dress as one food group with your friends, such as fruit, vegetables or meats. You can make a grape costume by attaching a bunch of inflated purple balloons to a sweater or shirt. You can also find ready-made grape, banana, apple, lemon, watermelon and pineapple costumes for children and adults at costume stores or large online retail stores.
You can dress as condiments. If you have two people, you can dress as ketchup and mustard, or salt and pepper, and, if you have four people, simply join the two pairs. You can purchase ketchup, mustard, salt and pepper costumes at most costume stores. If you have three people, you can dress as peanut butter, jelly and banana.
Television Characters
Return to your favorite childhood television show by dressing as your favorite characters from the series. TV show themes work well for groups of any size. You and your friends can dress up as Big Bird, Elmo, Bert or Ernie from "Sesame Street," or Pebbles, Bamm Bamm, Fred or Wilma from "The Flintstones." Making your own "Sesame Street" costumes will require a bit of ingenuity, but you can also purchase them at costume stores. You can make your own "Flintstones" costumes with simple, inexpensive fabric decorated with felt shapes attached with hot glue. You and your friends can also dress up as a group of Power Rangers, Smurfs, Muppets, Care Bears or "Peanuts" characters.
Superheroes
Salute your favorite comic books or action movies by dressing as a group of superheroes. You can make your own superhero costumes using items from your closet and simple craft supplies. Begin with tights or leggings and a leotard as a base, and hot glue insignias made out of felt to the leotard. Make a cape out of inexpensive metallic fabric, and purchase or make a mask. You can also purchase readymade costumes for Robin, Wonder Woman, Cat Woman, Superman, Batman, Captain America, Spider Man, Wolverine and more. For groups of girls, look to the X-men series for inspiration; you can dress as Rogue, Dark Phoenix or Storm.
