Any food you serve for your baby's first birthday should be child-friendly.
Food plays a large part in your child's birthday celebration, especially when it's to mark your baby's first year of life. Food should be simple for little hands and mouths, although something adults would enjoy as well. Many of your guests will likely be adults since first birthdays are more for the parents, family and friends to celebrate. Does this Spark an idea?
Crackers
Small animal or fish-shaped crackers that your child typically snacks on will likely be an ideal snack that children and adults can enjoy. Keep in mind your adult guests may have babies to hold, as well, which means one hand is available for eating. If you'd like to offer a more "grown up" version, try a cracker and cheese platter for the adults.
Sandwiches
Make peanut butter and jelly or cheese sandwiches. Cut them into small, bite-sized pieces or shapes using cookie cutters. Large submarine sandwiches can be cut into smaller sections for adults to enjoy.
Fruit
Clean and cut fruit into bite-sized pieces for adults and babies to enjoy. Consider using cookie cutters to create shapes out of fruits such as watermelon. The colors and textures might add to your decor if you arrange the fruit on platters in a decorative way.
Pasta and Meatballs
Soft, cooked noodles might work well for your little one and the other babies. Meatballs with sauce appeal to both babies and adults. Make the meatballs small to avoid choking hazards for the kids.
Chicken
Small chicken nuggets or chicken fingers may be ideal to nourish adult guests, while providing another option for babies. Babies won't eat as much as adults, however something filling could go a long way in avoiding meltdowns due to hungry babies.
Gelatin
Cut flavored gelatin into shapes that complement your party theme using cookie cutters. Provide different flavors for your guests to choose from.
Yogurt
Yogurt, or even pudding, is another snack that adults and babies can both enjoy. Individual, squeezable packages may work best for babies so they can "eat" on the go. Adults will likely prefer individual portions and a spoon.
Cake
Bake one cake for your guests and another small one for your baby to enjoy by himself. A second, smaller cake is typically called a "smash" cake for your baby to get all messy for those classic first birthday cake pictures. Or, serve cupcakes to everyone. Cupcakes may take some hassle out of the party since they are generally easier and faster to serve and require less cleanup.
