Birthday Party Ideas For The Second Birthday

She's 2! Give her a party she'll love.

Second birthdays are enjoyable because toddlers are much more social than they were at their one-year mark. Two-year-olds have short attention spans and are prone to napping. Keep the 2nd birthday party toddler-friendly by offering suitable activities for your child's peer group. Does this Spark an idea?

Cake Decorating

Provide your child and his friends with miniature cakes to decorate. Though children are young, they enjoy sweet treats. Buy small cakes or cupcakes, one for each child. Distribute small cups of nonpareils and decorative candies kids can use to create their own cakes. Avoid candies that could be choking hazards.

Alternatively, you could provide ice cream scoops in paper bowls. Give little ones candy sprinkles they can put on top.

Bubble Party

Host a bubble birthday party for your 2-year-old. Before the party, buy a bottle of bubbles for each child. Choose non-toxic bubble formulas, or make your own from gentle baby shampoo. Give children bubble wands and bubble toys to enjoy the bubble soap with. Place a bubble machine in the party room. Keep the machine hidden away from children.

Sidewalk Chalk Party

Take the party outside on a porch or sidewalk. Give children large pieces of chalk to use to create sidewalk chalk art. Have moms trace the child's hands on the sidewalk. Snap lots of pictures of the children and their artwork. Some toddlers are wobbly on their feet, so avoid crooked sidewalks or bumpy areas of the driveway.

Costume Characters

Hire costumed characters to entertain children. Avoid scary clowns or figures small children would fear. Choose teddy bear or princess characters. Persuade a family member or a professional character to attend the party. Have the characters distribute goody bags or special treats to the children.

Party Toys

Provide inflatable toys at your child's party. Inflatable jumps and bouncy games provide toddlers fun places to play. Choose an inflatable toy with child-safe netted sides. Set the inflatable toys outdoors where children can jump freely without danger of falling on furniture. Ball pits are good activities for children to play in. Set up ball pits in a grassy, shady area. Fill small wading pools with clean sand and fill them with toys and sand pails. If the party is during the summer months, fill pools with cool water. Always supervise children playing in water. Sprinklers are fun toys for children to run and play through.
