Cheap Party Gifts

Choose cheap party favors to keep the budget in check

Hosting a party can be fun and rewarding in so many ways, but can also be quite expensive. Keep it budget friendly with cheap party gifts instead of more pricey favors. With a little creativity, you can still ensure guests go home with a nice memento of the event without having to break the bank.

Candy Bar

A candy bar will make a whimsical addition to your party

Construct a do-it-yourself candy station for guests for a fun, whimsical favor that will double as a decorative display. Fill glass jars with all different kinds of candies that can be purchased in bulk from a wholesale candy supplier. Rock candy sticks look particularly elegant. You can use a huge assortment of candies or stick to only a few favorites. Use candies that are the same colors as the other decorations in your scheme for a cohesive look. For an elegant soiree, you can use only black-and-white colored candies. For a birthday party or children's event use multicolored kid's favorites. Provide guests with scoops, twist ties and cellophane bags to make their own goody bags.

Terra-cotta Plant

Guests can replant their favors in their home gardens.

Gift party-goers with a mini plant or flower to take home and enjoy. Mini terracotta pots can be purchased from craft or gardening stores for under a $1 apiece. You might be able to get them cheaper from a wholesaler with a little research. Fill each planter with some soil and a mini plant purchased in bulk from a nursery. If you plan far enough ahead, you can also grow the plants or flowers from seed for even more savings. Good plants to use could be herbs, like thyme or rosemary, that guests can use for cooking; wheatgrass, which makes a nutritious snack for pets and also looks and smells lovely; edible flowers like pansies or violas; or mini succulents. Guests can replant the favors in their home or garden for a practical, decorative and growing reminder of your event.

Cookies or Brownies

Home-baked goods make yummy favors.

Edible favors are always a crowd pleaser, especially for guests with a sweet tooth. If you can bake cookies or brownies yourself, these can also be a very cheap party gift. You'll want to prepare your baked goods a day or two ahead of time to allow plenty of time to cool, decorate and package. Sugar cookies will make a blank canvas on which you can decorate just about any design you'd like. Use small decorative icing tubes to create a little masterpiece. Dust brownies with confectioners sugar for a more festive look. Package in small white boxes or cellophane bags and tie with ribbon. Guests will appreciate the time and love that went into a home-baked gift.
