Bridal Shower Decoration Ideas From The Past

Bridal shower decorations for historical themes

The decorations you choose for a bridal shower help set the mood and tone for the party. If you are planning a bridal shower with a historical theme, choosing the right decorations will help pull your guests back to a different time. Does this Spark an idea?

Victorian Tea Shower

A Victorian tea is a popular theme for a bridal shower with a historic feel. For decorations, choose a pastel color palette such as pink, cream and pale green. Set up several small, round tables and use vintage lace or linen tablecloths. Select vintage china and silver for place settings, and opt for linen napkins over paper. Create centerpieces by filling antique porcelain vases with tea roses in colors that coordinate with the color palette for the shower. You could also add small flower arrangements at each place setting for guests to take with them as party favors. Add candles in porcelain, ceramic or brass antique holders to the tables. Feel free to mix and match china, silver and linen patterns, as well as the candleholders.

1950s Housewife Shower

Another idea for bridal shower decorations rooted in the past is to choose decorations reminiscent of the 1950s. Choose a red, white and teal color scheme, or go ultra-feminine with an all pink color palette, depending on the personality of the bride. Check thrift stores for dishes from the 1950s to use as place settings. Create arrangements with small flowers, such as daisies or impatiens, in retro-styled recipe boxes, and set one at each place setting to decorate the table. You could also add a floral centerpiece in a 1950s-style vase, and add strands of pearls and vintage kitchen utensils as finishing touches. Hang posters with 1950s iconic housewives, such as Donna Reed, Barbara Billingsley, Lucille Ball and Jane Wyatt.

1970s Disco Shower

If you are planning a rowdier shower, but still want a retro feel, consider a 1970s disco theme. Choose psychedelic colors, like bright orange, pink, yellow or green, and, of course, a disco ball is a must. You can either hang the disco ball above the table, or set it on the table as a centerpiece. Use tie-dyed bandannas for napkins and daisies in mirrored vases for flower arrangements. Scatter psychedelic plastic rings and necklaces on the table. You could also set up a life-size cutout of a 1970s icon, like Mork, Farrah Fawcett or Tony Manero, and hang beaded curtains from doorways to round out the '70s feel.
