Prom night is an evening that most attendees will remember forever. Choosing a Hawaiian theme for a prom will give the decoration committee dozens of choices in decorating for this special evening. Flowers
A Hawaiian-themed prom is not complete without plenty of leis scattered throughout the venue. Drape them on doorknobs, tape them to walls and place them around a centerpiece on the table. Set a basket of colorful leis near the entrance of the prom for people to wear during the party. Use tropical flowers as the theme on your tablecloths, napkins and plates if the budget allows. Otherwise, ask art students to color or paint tropical flowers and leis on plain white paper tablecloths.
Table Decorations
Every table will need a centerpiece at the prom. Surround a fresh or faux pineapple with a lei to create a simple tropical-looking table decoration. Place a coordinating pillar candle into a bowl of white sand and surround it with a few seashells. Scatter about real coconut shells to hold mints and nuts on the food table.
Photograph Background
Ask a few artistically-inclined students to draw a mural onto a large piece of white paper to create the backdrop for the prom photographs. Create an inspired Hawaiian scene simply by drawing an ocean background with a sunset. Draw a background with palm, banana or coconut trees for an island ambiance. Include tropical-looking flowers, such as hibiscus, to enhance the theme.
Wall Decorations
Have the decorating committee cut out tropical pictures from magazines to decorate the walls of the party room. These can be beach scenes, pineapples, coconuts, tropical flowers or pictures of people doing the hula dance. Use brown and green construction paper to shape full-size palm trees. Add a stuffed toy monkey to give the palm trees a whimsical look.
