Fall Theme Birthday Party Ideas

Fall Theme Birthday Party Ideas

Celebrate a birthday with nature and the arrival of fall. Combine a seasonal theme with a special event. Choose party decorations, invitations, refreshments and activities that correspond to the end of summer and the close of another year. Whether the birthday party is for a child or adult, careful planning and advance preparations will make this autumn celebration one to remember. Does this Spark an idea?

Invitations

Create autumn-themed birthday invitations. Use a computer with a word processing program such as Microsoft Word to design an invitation that specifies a fall birthday celebration in a 4-inch by 6-inch space in font colors of red, brown and orange. An example of wording can be:

Come to a Fall Birthday Party for

(birthday person's name)

Date, time and place

RSVP (phone number)

Wear a fall hat!

Print out the invitation, cut out with a paper cutter and attach it with double-sided tape or stick glue to a 5-inch by 7-inch piece of fall-theme printed scrapbook paper. Insert it into a beige A-7 envelope (to fit a 5-inch by 7-inch card or invitation). Stamp the outside of the envelopes with rubber stamps with fall images such as leaves and acorns in bronze metallic ink.

Decorations

Decorate the party room with fall leaf garlands, banners that may say, "Happy Birthday" and "Fall is Here," and wall scenes such as scarecrows, pumpkin patches and trees with fall leaves. Place a few bales of hay around the room as sitting areas. Paper supplies can include fall-themed table covers, plates, cups and treat bags with novelty prizes like fall tattoos, candy corn and fruit packs. Purchase packages of fake fall leaves and confetti to lay on refreshment or dining tables in a random fashion.

Refreshments

Have a fall-themed birthday cake as the centerpiece of the refreshment table. It can be a round or rectangular cake in fall colors with decorations such as scarecrows, haystacks, turkeys, fall leaves and pumpkins. Other refreshments can include finger foods such as "pigs in a blanket" (small sausages baked in biscuits), apple wedges with caramel dipping sauce, celery sticks with peanut butter, Fritos, peanuts, pretzels and other chips.

Activities

Have a few activities planned for age-appropriate guests. Children can decorate foam frames with peel and stick images, letters and numbers that relate to the fall season, including Halloween and Thanksgiving. They can also play "Pin the tail on the turkey" or bob for apples. Adults can have word games such as creating words from "Halloween" or "Thanksgiving." Guests can guess how many candy corn are in a clear jar. The winner keeps the candy. Weather permitting, have a "campfire" to roast marshmallows or make s'mores. Benches or bales of hay can surround the fire.
